Our Programs

Rooted Emergence is a community-based organization that offers a range of educational projects for youth in underserved communities. Our projects focus on cultivating skills, knowledge, and self-awareness to empower young people and promote social and environmental justice. By emphasizing holistic well-being, sustainable practices, and community engagement, our programs aim to equip youth with the tools they need to lead fulfilling, impactful lives while promoting positive change in their communities and beyond.

Farm and Ecology

The RE farming and ecology program teaches youth about sustainable agriculture and the natural world, including growing and harvesting crops, permaculture design, soil biology, and food forestry. This helps them connect with nature, improve their physical and mental well-being, and work towards food justice in underserved communities.

Physical Rejuvenation

The physical rejuvenation projects at Rooted Emergence aim to teach and inspire youth to prioritize their physical and mental health through movement and outdoor activities. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in various forms of exercise as well as learning about basic outdoor survival skills. The goal is to help youth develop a positive relationship with their bodies and the environment, while also learning important life skills. The program promotes overall physical and mental well-being and encourages a sense of community and connection with others.

Self Development

The self-development projects at Rooted Emergence aim to empower and inspire youth through group discussions, self-directed projects, outdoor survival skills, and therapeutic practices like meditation and art therapy. Participants will have opportunities to explore their creativity, develop resilience, and cultivate a greater sense of self-awareness and emotional intelligence.

Nutrition and Food

The nutrition and food projects at Rooted Emergence empower youth in underserved communities to make healthy and sustainable food choices through hands-on activities like cooking and gardening. The curriculum includes education on Whole-Food Plant-Based (WFPB) meals and snacks, herbal teas and tinctures, and the nutritional benefits of specific foods and plants, as well as human biology. The goal is to help youth understand the connection between their food choices, their health, and the environment, and to support food justice in their communities.

Craftsmanship and Building

The craftsmanship and building projects at Rooted Emergence will teach youth practical skills like carpentry, masonry, plumbing, and electrical work, using natural resources and recycled materials to build structures. The projects aim to provide youth with the tools and knowledge they need to create their own structures, make repairs, and promote a sense of self-sufficiency.

Community Service

In our community service projects, youth will have the opportunity to give back and make a positive impact in their neighborhoods. They will participate in activities such as beach, river, and park clean-ups, and community food forest and urban garden installations. By working together, they will learn the importance of environmental stewardship, community building, and taking action to make a difference in the world around them.
